October 4, 2007, not a day I will soon forget. 25 years ago I saw the world for the 1st time and today I got loved on all day from the minute I woke up and I wanted to share it. I thought it would be fun to take a picture every hour to show you my day.
5:00 am – My friend, Thandie, spent the night Wednesday night so as soon as I got up this morning she started singing happy birthday. Thanks, Thandie for being a good sport by letting me post a picture of you right after you woke up. Actually she doesn’t know this picture is on my website but she doesn’t get on the internet often so I’m not worried about her finding it J Don’t tell her.
6:00 – My first birthday text message was received at 6:15 and I got them ALL DAY. (Everyone is on pay-as-you-go here and texting is so much cheaper, I never call unless I have to). I also got several phone calls including my mom and sister. My dad tried to call too but my mom kept the line busy for a while J
I spent some sweet time with the Lord, just thanking Him for sustaining me for 25 years and he filled my heart, so that the rest of the day was just overflow J
7:00 – The girl who cleans my house left a present for me on Monday and I couldn’t wait any longer to open it. I told Thandie I wanted to open Dolly’s present and then Thandie told me she had one for me to open as well. I always love getting gifts but it means so much more from those who I know have little.
9:00 – I went for a run from 8-9 and when I got back I found this on my dining room table.
There are the culprits. This is Shirley and her son, Rodney, who live in the main house next to my cottage on the property. It was such a sweet surprise.
10:00 – Preparing to meet with my Bible Study.
11:00 – Stopped by my office on the way to bible study and found this sign on the door, it was another sweet surprise!! Thanks, Julie! You are so creative and thoughtful, like a sheep with 5 legs 🙂
12:00 – Checked my email in my office to find e-cards and lots of birthday messages J
1:00 – Spar is the chain grocery store and I used my Spar card today and this flashed up on the screen and they gave me a free candy bar. Awesome!!
This is Betty, she’s my favorite parking lot attendant in the Spar parking lot by my office. Betty is my favorite because I was convinced she was not a Swazi or that Betty was not her real name because it was so easy to pronounce and I don’t know anyone my age named Betty J When I saw her today I said ‘Guess what Betty, it’s my birthday” and she started singing to me. Then she took a 2 Emalangeni coin out of her cash register and handed it to me. “What is this for?” I said “Give it back to me” she whispered. “You can’t pay for parking on your birthday”. It was so sweet.
2:00 – I arrived at my Bible Study and I brought a cake to share with the girls and saw these party hats at the store and decided to buy them. The girls were so excited to wear the hats and I was trying so hard not to laugh, they looked so funny in them. They sang me happy birthday in English and SiSwati.
3:00 – The girls gave me these two gifts. Again I was so surprised (as seen in the picture) they bought me anything, it was so sweet.
4:00 – driving back home with one of my Bible Study girls, Hloniphile (Hlone-pee-lay)
6:00 – I tried to bake a cake and it turned out so ugly but it tasted so good! This was the 2nd cake I ever baked and the 1st one was last week. This was my 1st time to ever use my oven in my house and I have lived in for over a year. I’m so domestic, it hurts.
7:00 – Party!! All my single/young-married missionary friends brought Chinese food for dinner.
8:00 – My birthday candles in my birthday ice cream.
9:00 – Then I got to play one of my favorite games, Speed Scrabble, and of course they let me win…ok, actually I’m just really good and I always win J
Yes, it was.
