Name: Tenele Sibandze (den-ell-ay sih-bond-zay)
Form: Form 4 (Junior)
Favorite Subject: Biology
What do you want to be when you grow up: Professional Medical Doctor
Who do you stay with? Mom and two sisters
Are parents alive? My dad died earlier this year
How many siblings: She is the 9th of 11 children, 3 are from her mother.
Interesting Fact: Father was the chief Zombodze (chiefdom the high school is in) therefore Tenele is a princess.
How many wives did your father have? 5
Why did you join the Cherish Bible Study? I was told a Bible Study would be starting and I came the first day just to find out more about it.
What did you learn from it? I learned to take care of myself and feel confident about her worth.
Why do you want to lead a Cherish Bible Study? I want these girls to know the reason why God brought them here on earth. Girls think life is only about falling in love with a boy, but that is not really life.
Are you waiting to have sex until you are married? Yes
Why? I want to be confident about myself, don’t want to be discriminated against like other girls who are having sex at school
What would you say to encourage someone to remain abstinent until marriage? In order to be a girl you have to be a virgin (*When i asked what this meant, i understood it to mean having sex brings a lot of responsibility, you are no longer a girl*)
Did your parents remain wait until marriage to have sex? I don’t know.
My (Becca) favorite thing about Tenele is when I am speaking English too fast or she doesn’t understand something she scrunches her whole face up and tilts her head and I can hardly help but laugh.
“How precious is your lovingkindness, O God! And the children of men take refuge in the shadow of you wings…for with you is the fountain of Life..” ps.36:7
You’ve been on my heart, Becca. Thank you for this beautiful glimpse into His kingdom. Love getting to seeing the life in these updates and the fruit of His calling and vision over you. Praying for you this morning.
Love,
Sally
