My first trip to Africa 3 years ago was to Kenya and I left a piece of my heart there.  I was emailed by the missionaries I stayed with informing me of the ethnic cleansing going on. If this isn't stopped it's predicted it could be like the Rwandan genocide of 1994, which killed over 200,000.

In a nutshell, there was an election last week and the Kikuyu (majority tribe) president elect beat the Luo (one of the minority tribes) president elect and mobs from the Luo tribe are killing Kikuyus. The tallying of the votes are said to have not followed European Union standards and the numbers may have been inflated for the Kikuyu president, President Kibaki, who has already been inaugurated.

Over 100 have been killed and over 10,000 have fled their homes in fear.  Many are running to churches for refuge but the mobs are burning the churches.  Fuel access in now limited in Nairobi, the capital, and the int'l airport is hard to access because the streets are not safe to travel on.  Many are locked in their homes, churches, or hotels in fear.

Suggested Prayer - Please just take a few minutes to pray for those in Kenya, to fight for them, and change the situation there, for God's glory.

1.  Father, I ask for our Kenyan brothers and sisters and those ministering to them in your name that they would be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, and faithful in prayer.  I pray that we could love them by mourning as they are mourning (Rom. 12:12, 15).  Christ, fulfill your job description by binding up the brokenhearted there who have lost loved ones, comfort all who are mourning, and provide for those who are grieving (Isaiah 61:1-2).

2.  Lord, I pray for the Body of Christ in Kenya that you would develop in them perseverance, so that they may be mature and complete and not lacking anything (James 1:2-4)

3.  Prince of Peace, I pray that the Luos and the Kikuyus would love one another and live in harmony with one another and that you would enable them to live at peace with everyone.  That they would not take revenge but leave room for your wrath, for it is written 'It is [yours] to avenge; [you] will repay'.  Avenge your children, Lord!  I pray that they would not be overcome with evil, but would overcome evil with good (Rom. 12:16-21).  Prince of Peace, give your children the peace that surpasses all understanding as they pray to you now, Lord (Phil. 4:6-7).

4.  Protect specifically the Mairori family, the relatives of the Kamau family, the Kisorio family, the Kibi family and all those involved with International Christian Ministries in Kenya.

Lord strengthen the Christians in Kenya and bring more into the Kingdom because of this.  Lord bring justice about in this situation and be glorified, Almighty God.  In the name of the Most High, Jesus Christ, Amen.

If you're still interested,I think CNN has the best report on this.  http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/africa/01/01/kenya.elections/index.html.   If something I wrote is incorrect please tell me.  I got my information and picture from BBC and CNN.

*p.s. Kenya is 4 (very large countries) away from me in Swaziland and will still return there in 2 weeks.  Also Swaziland has only 1 tribe and most warfare in Africa is intertribal warfare, so don't worry, I'll be safe :)
