One of my favorite books is Pursuit of God by A.W. Tozer, one of His chapters talks about how we in our minds most of us separate the secular and the spiritual. For example we would say, making reservations at a hotel is secular whereas teaching a Bible Study is spiritual. We aren’t suppossed to be locked up in our houses or even be at Bible Study ALL THE TIME, we have to get out so the Lord can use us according to His will, whether you are washing the dishes or helping to “wash” away someone sins, if the Lord told you to do it, it’s ‘spiritual’.
Yesterday was cool because we went to train the Bible Study leaders at the school. I also was suppossed to make reservations at the guest house near the school for the team coming in August. I ask facetiously, Which one was more “spiritual”? Upon arrival at the guest house I met, Atonet, one of the owners of the guest house and made the reservation. She began asking questions about what the team would be doing and I started telling her about the Bible Study we were doing at the high school. She said that her and her mother didn’t have any thing “as organized” (her words) as I did but they began to meet with women that lived around the guest house. Atonet told me she was looking for a Bible Study to lead with the women and she was sure the Lord had sent me not only to make reservations but to answer her petition to Him. She was even more elated when I told her I had an extra copy of the Bible Study with me in the car that she could have. She continued to tell me that someone in her family had called to ask her what time she was finishing work that day and she said 6 even though she always leaves at 5. Even when she said 6 she was thinking to herself “why 6? why did i say that?” but she went ahead and stayed. We arrived at 5:30 to make the reservation and after receiving the Bible Study from me she said “This is the reason, this is why I was suppossed to stay until 6 today, I was suppossed to meet you get this Bible Study.”
It reminds me of Matthew 28:18 that says “AS YOU GO, make disciples of all nations..”. The Lord uses the tasks of this world to make more disciples in places we would never think to minister to.
